A pastor was invited to preach at a church out of town. His wife, who accompanied him, was sitting in the pew listening intently, when about a third of the way through the message the man sitting next to her leaned over and whispered, “That guy can’t preach a lick, can he?”
The pastor’s wife replied, “Do you know who I am?”
The dumbfounded man said, “No. Who are you?”
“I’m the invited preacher’s wife,” she said with soft indignation.
The man then asked, “Do you know who I am?”
“No,” she answered and waited for a reply.
However, all he said was, “Thank God you don’t!”
Sometimes it’s better to keep your mouth closed if all you have to say is critical.
“Some people make cutting remarks, but the words of the wise bring healing.” Proverbs 12:18 (NLT)
May your words be wise and healing.
