“We serve a God of new beginnings and second chances. His mercies are new every single morning.” – Tiffany Langford
New clothes displayed, new pencils sharpened, new notebooks ready to be filled with knowledge, new shoes, new classrooms, all to welcome the new school year. Buses are crowding the streets. Parents are relieved the summer’s over. Teachers and students anxiously and excitedly begin a fresh semester. First-day-of-school pictures are being posted on social media. The daylight hours are shortening. Soon, the scent of Autumn will fill the air. It’s a time of new beginnings.
I love new beginnings! This time of year has always been my favorite. It’s a new day full of hopes, dreams, and possibilities! It reminds me of God’s grace. Perhaps I didn’t perform well academically the last year, but ahead is a new semester, new school year, a chance to start over, a clean slate!
Have you ever longed for that kind of reset? You can have one. God is a God of fresh starts. By his grace he forgives, frees, and invites us to begin again, to be born again, to be born from above. We can’t rewind our lives, but we can change their trajectory. Because Jesus bore the weight of our past on the cross, yesterday doesn’t dictate tomorrow. With the Holy Spirit guiding us, we can climb aboard the bus bound for glory, confident that today is another gift of new mercies and new beginnings.
