Dependence Day

Flag“It cannot be emphasized too clearly and too often that this nation was founded not by religionists, but  by Christians; not on religion, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ. For this very reason, peoples of other faiths have been afforded asylum, prosperity, and freedom of worship here.” – Patrick Henry

In 1776 the founders of our nation signed a “Declaration of Independence.” The independence we then proclaimed was independence from Britain.  At the same time and in the same document, we declared our Dependence on our Creator for the basic human rights and dignities of which we had been deprived the King and Parliament of Britain.  It’s amazing that today we are very happy to continue to declare our Independence without acknowledging, as a nation, our Dependence on our Creator.

We can acknowledge it or we can deny it, but we can’t alter reality.  We are dependent on God for our life our liberty and our happiness.  Without God there is no life, liberty, or happiness… there is the pursuit of happiness without God, that happens everywhere, every day, but it is never found without God.

I hope your Independence Day was enjoyable.  Today, it’s back to work!  But go about your work and your life recalling and acknowledging your Dependence on our Gracious God.

Great concept, Chris. Dependence Day. I like it! But I think we would need to replace fireworks. They just don’t seem to fit.

I’m Chris

Welcome to Flourishing Life, a space designed to help you pursue the abundant life God offers everyone. Jesus said in John 10:10, “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly” (ESV). I’m convinced God created the world for flourishing human life. However, we’ve all contributed to the brokenness in the world and our own lives. Many don’t even realize a better way is possible. My hope for this blog is that you’ll discover the life God has always intended for you, the ones you love, and the world.
